35 Community Newsrooms Join Forces to Raise Over $1 Million

Today, Giving Newsday, is the start of the 2024 #newsCOneeds Year-End Giving Campaign! By the end of December, 35 community newsrooms are engaged in a campaign to increase public awareness and grassroots support from individuals for the vital public service that journalism provides to our communities. They collectively aim to raise at least one million dollars to support local news - and they need your help!

The 2022 #newsCOneeds cohort of participating news organizations included small, locally-owned rural and urban newspapers, local public radio stations, statewide digital outlets, nonprofit newsrooms, a public benefit corporation, a big city alt-weekly, a one-person startup, and more. In the end, the effort raised more than $700,000 for newsrooms across Colorado.

Matching Grant Opportunity: Join the 2019 Colorado #GivingNewsDay Challenge

The Colorado Media Project (CMP) is offering matching gifts of up to $5,000 per Colorado newsroom to help inspire more individuals to support homegrown, local Colorado news. In partnership with the national NewsMatch campaign, the CMP also will offer technical support and marketing toolkits for participating Colorado newsrooms.

Is your public service news outlet planning to do a year-end giving campaign? The Colorado Media Project is offering matching gifts of up to $1,500 per organization for new memberships or individual donations made on “Giving News Day” — a new, nationwide campaign to increase philanthropic giving to media outlets on November 27, 2018 (a.k.a. Giving Tuesday). LOIs due November 1.
