DENVER (Nov. 3, 2025) – The Colorado Media Project (CMP) is multiplying donations made to 41 local Colorado newsrooms from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, backed by a new $175,000 statewide fund. The fund is the centerpiece of the 2025 #newsCOneeds campaign, launched today to support local news as vital civic infrastructure.
This year's campaign highlights the public's essential role in supporting local news as vital civic infrastructure. The need is more urgent than ever. A funding crisis, created by the defunding of public media and shrinking advertising revenue due to broader economic pressures, has hit already under-resourced outlets. This trend is especially damaging in Colorado's rural communities, where the loss of news outlets means communities risk losing access to their only source of critical, fact-based hyper-local news. information.
When Coloradans need trusted information quickly, it is local news that people count on for vital updates on a host of issues, including schools, government, and elections, and to make sense of how national policies impact their communities.
“Strong communities and strong local news go hand in hand,” said Kimberly Spencer, director of the Colorado Media Project. “This campaign is an opportunity for Coloradans to invest in the local, fact-based news and information they rely on every day. It’s what keeps our communities informed, connected, and engaged.”
A donation of any size helps strengthen local news and contributes to a healthier information ecosystem for the entire state. Coloradans can find a list of participating newsrooms and make a donation to be multiplied by visiting https://mtyc.co/m4yh1f.
The 2025 #newsCOneeds fund is made possible through support to CMP from the The Rose Community Foundation, The Democracy Fund, The Colorado Health Foundation, and The Gates Family Foundation.
