Colorado’s local newsrooms, journalists, and media entrepreneurs are encouraged to apply for Colorado Media Project’s third round of grant funding for Advancing Equity in Local News. Applications for our 2024 grants will open in Fall 2023, with a submission deadline of early December.
This open-access program has distributed $629,790 to 33 organizations to date:
Funding is available to support projects that address calls to action from community members and journalists from Colorado’s Black, Latino, Indigenous and Asian, South Asian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities. Voices Initiative working groups convened by the Colorado News Collaborative with support from CMP produced four important reports that point the way toward stronger relationships between local media and communities of color:
Fighting To Be Seen: A Call From Colorado’s AANHPI Communities for Equitable and Just Local News
Think Big, Act Now.: A Call to Action from Latinx Coloradans for Equitable and Just Local News
The Time is Right Now: A Call to Action from Black Coloradans for Anti-Racist and Just Local News
Common themes and calls to action among these reports helped shape and refine the priorities for CMP’s Advancing Equity in Local News grant program. Colorado newsrooms are invited to apply for funding for projects that:
Support internal efforts to strengthen diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in Colorado newsrooms;
Strengthen connections and build trust between Colorado newsrooms and the diverse communities they serve; and/or
Support more diverse and inclusive civic news leadership, entrepreneurship, ownership and narratives.
Applications will be available in Fall 2023 for the January 2024 grant cycle. To receive updates from Colorado Media Project on this opportunity, sign up here.
