Our strategy is to build a resilient, community-centered, and sustainable local news and information ecosystem that serves all Coloradans. We do this by funding projects that close coverage gaps, support trusted information, and build system-wide strength.

We do not have any open grant applications at this time. Available grant opportunities, including our Newsroom Safety and Resilience Fund, are listed below.

Current Grants

Newsroom Safety & Resilience Grant

The Colorado Media Project is offering rapid-response grants of up to $5,000 to help small newsrooms invest in urgent safety and resilience needs.

Funds can be used for expenses such as liability insurance, digital security tools, encrypted communications, and physical safety upgrades. A total of $75,000 is available, and grants will be awarded on a rolling basis until the fund is fully distributed.

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Have a 2025 operating budget under $500,000.
  • Have been actively publishing since at least January 1, 2023.
  • Primarily serve an audience in Colorado.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to editorial independence and transparency.
  • Be recognized as a nonprofit by the IRS or have a valid fiscal sponsor.
