Aspen Journalism is a local, nonprofit and investigative journalism organization in Aspen, Colorado. Our mission is to produce investigative journalism for the benefit of people with a stake in the Aspen region, as well-informed citizens make better decisions. Our area of interest radiates outward from Aspen to include Pitkin County, the Roaring Fork River watershed, the Western Slope, the state of Colorado, and the Colorado River basin.

Chalkbeat is the nonprofit news organization covering one of America’s most important stories: the effort to improve schools for all children, especially those who have historically lacked access to a quality education. Our mission is to inform the decisions and actions that lead to better outcomes for children and families, especially those in the low-income communities where improvement can have the largest impact.

We connect our communities. By being community weekly newspapers/websites we cover government, schools, businesses. breaking news and features about interesting people. We play the watchdog role when necessary, but more often than not, write about good people doing good things. However, as our communities have grown, so have the hard hitting stories we cover as well as two high school shootings in five years.
Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition

The Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition is a nonpartisan alliance of groups, news organizations and individuals dedicated to ensuring the transparency of state and local governments in Colorado by promoting freedom of the press, open courts and open access to government records and meetings. CFOIC helps Coloradans understand and use the Colorado Open Records Act, the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act and the Colorado Open Meetings Law, as well as the rules governing court access. We also monitor Colorado legislation, judicial decisions and violations of the state’s open government laws.

The Colorado Independent is a statewide online news source operating in a time when spin is plentiful, but factual, fair and unflinching news in the public interest is all too rare. Our award-winning team of veteran investigative and explanatory reporters and news columnists aims to amplify the voices of Coloradans whose stories are unheard, shine light on the relationships between people, power and policy, and hold public officials to account. We strive to report the news with context, social conscience, and soul, and to give Coloradans the insight they need to promote conversation and understanding in this square, swing state we call home.

The Colorado Sun is a journalist-owned, award-winning news outlet based in Denver but which strives to cover all of Colorado so that our state — our community — can better understand itself. In this way, we believe we can contribute to a more vibrant, informed and whole Colorado. We are committed to fact-based, in-depth and nonpartisan journalism. We cover everything from politics and culture to the outdoor industry and education. Our main goal is not to turn a profit. Our goal is to produce the best possible journalism. We do that with the help of you, our readers and community backers. Every dollar we take in goes directly toward the journalism we produce. Period. That’s our promise to our readers — along with striving to make sure each and every one of our stories are worth your time. We launched on Sept. 10, 2018.
North Denver
Every great community needs a place for people to share information and debate great ideas. North Denver deserves no less, but was without a community newspaper for nearly two years. We believe the Denver North Star can be North Denver’s guide to community, politics, arts and culture. North Denver has changed dramatically over the years, and we hope to cover both the old and the new parts of North Denver without bias on the sometimes contentious issues that arise in a changing community.

Our employees shall embrace the highest calling of all: We are thirsty for truth, we keep power in check and we inform the masses. We will do so with care, emotion and fire in our bellies.
