Press Forward Colorado: How Rural Newsrooms are Bridging Divides and Preserving Accountability

CMP presents the second event in our Press Forward Colorado 2024 Learning Series, featuring:

Reaching rural audiences with reliable, high-quality local news and information is not easy, these days — and getting harder.

In counties across Colorado, rural newspapers, community radio stations and a handful of digital start-ups are often the sole providers of original, professionally reported local news and accountability journalism for their communities.

As the State of Colorado aims to expand broadband access to 99% of Coloradans by 2027, many of these small, mission-driven businesses are evolving and testing out new ways to reach their audiences online. And many are leaning into their unique value-add to their communities: high-quality, locally produced accountability journalism and community-based storytelling for otherwise underserved audiences.

Join us from 10:30 to Noon MT on Thursday, April 25 to hear how local news innovators from rural communities across Colorado are working to ensure that rural residents have equitable access to high-quality local news — online, and IRL — with support from the Colorado Media Project and our Press Forward Colorado Funder Table.

NOTE: The format for this event will be 60 minutes of discussion with local news leaders, followed by 30 minutes of peer-to-peer discussion with funders only. If you are a Colorado-based funder who wishes to join us in person in Denver, please contact Melissa Milios Davis.
