First Draft: Local News as a Public Good

  • Gates Family Foundation (map)

As the ad-based model for local news struggles – can public policies and public support help transform and reinvigorate civic journalism?

To discuss this urgent question and more, join your friends and colleagues in the Colorado journalism community for the latest edition of FIRST DRAFT, our social event series for celebrating all things local news.

Our October event will unpack a new report by the Colorado Media Project, which this summer convened national, state, and local leaders in journalism, government, libraries, higher education, technology, and law to study Colorado public policy pathways for sustaining local news and civic information.

Colorado journalists are encouraged to come together for cocktails and conversation at the Gates Family Foundation offices in Denver, where we'll discuss the report's research, recommendations and more. We'll be joined by our collaborators at Free Press, a leading national organization advocating for robust journalism and open media, among many other friends and partners. Space is limited so please RSVP, ASAP!
